Breakfast Cereal

Healthy Breakfast Ideas

  • Porridge (Add Chopped Banana / Rice Crispies to “Sweeten”)
  • Eggs & wholegrain toast
  • Cheese & toast

Honey, while “Healthy” is very sticky / high in sugar including similar syrups eg.  Maple Syrup, Golden Syrup – should only be eaten rarely!

 

Cereals - Lowest Sugar

(10g or less / 100g cereal)

  • Porridge (sugar free)
  • Shredded Wheat (sugar free)
  • Weetabix (4.4g sugar / 100g cereal)
  • Cornflakes (8g / 100g)
  • Rice Crispies (10g/100g)

 

Cereals - High Sugar - Avoid or reduce!

(More than 20g sugar / 100g)

  • Special K Sustain (21g)
  • Cheerios (21.6g)
  • Bran Flakes (22g)
  • Alpen (original) 23.1g
  • Kelkin Tropical Oat Granola (24.1g)
  • Crunchy Nut Feast (31g)
  • Coco Pops (34g)

Any cereal that has “honey” or is “frosted” is very high in sugar and damaging to teeth (e.g. Frosties, Honey Nut loops)

 

FRUIT JUICES

Fruit juices can be high in acid and sugar and best used sparingly & very well diluted.
